Butler concludes (I think) her entertaining tale. April, and her maiden name actually is Snow, is a snow white sort of gal until falling under the spell of Lilith, a most memorable BFF bad girl.Lilith makes a lot of money. What she actually does is never clear to April’s husband Thomas.April has acted in a private porno Lilith produced for a wealthy client to his specifications. Thomas and April have since pulled away from the game, but this being a hotwife series, we know they’ll be drawn back in again.Butler’s wry, elegantly droll style juxtaposes entertainingly with Thomas’ first-person voice. He comes from such a dese-and-dose blue collar background that his workmates find him faintly scary. He occasionally uses old-neighborhood savvy - how do you look threatening enough to avoid a fight? how do you acknowledge but not acknowledge someone at the same time? - to get him through the increasingly weird situations he now finds himself in. He’s still inclined to bring his own six-pack to someone else’s house.He knows he’s over his head with the gorgeous April. He finds dark humor everywhere, particularly now that the two have entered Lilith’s every-day-is-Studio-54 world, with its cast of glamorous, decadent coke-and-champagne people including porn actors.April’s inarticulateness renders her mysterious to Thomas. He’s tormented as she shimmers between the familiar girl he married and the wild woman she’s lately become. He grapples with which one she really is. Is she really a slut for BBC? Or was the film just for the money? Is she now someone whose fidelity he can’t count on, or can she return to her same old self, or what? Her non-answers to his questions leave the truth out there just beyond the um and uh and unfinished sentences.Lilith is one of Butler’s finer creations. A glamorous party girl who has never ever paid for a drink or waited in a club line, she routinely appears in clothes bordering on nudity. She lives her life as if there’s a spotlight on her, and those around her the bit players in a running reality show. She’s part Paris Hilton, part whorehouse madam, part mischievous imp. She wouldn’t have been a Studio 54 regular, but one of the dirty masterminds designing its decadent spectacles.She toys with lesser mortals like Thomas. Other than the drugs inevitably around on party nights - the story opens with April getting high and horny on Ecstasy - he can never pin Lilith down as doing anything actually illegal, but the hint is always there.Lilith sees inside Thomas and April. For others she puts together sexual scenarios for money - but for her two friends she does it out of the kindness, and wickedness, of her heart. And sometimes she can capitalize on it.She knows that what Thomas really wants is for April to cheat - to promise never to step out again, and then do it anyway. Thomas’ cuck agony and, uh, ecstasy increases with April’s perceived doing it against his wishes, rather than because of them. And he does want it.I’ll only tweak Butler for a couple of things.When Thomas walks in on Lilith at her own house, and he sees her naked for the first time, he’s not distracted enough by it.His eyeballs should pop out of his head, comic-book style. Granted, she goes around nearly undressed to clubs and flashes people by not wearing panties under her see-through party dresses. But while Thomas seems hypnotized by the latter, giving us long descriptions of her diaphanous pink this or white bride-but-slutty-schoolgirl that, he dismisses her actual nudity with a passing mention.Darlin’, Thomas is a GUY. A blue-collar, straight, beer-drinking GUY. He shouldn’t be doing long fashion descriptions at all, but okay, we need to visualize things and it’s artistic license. But now he’s seeing the modern equivalent of a Playboy Bunny NEKKID. He should be having trouble speaking and maybe breathing. He should be wondering whether, against all evidence, he’d get lucky if he jumped Lilith’s bones. Yes, yes, he’s in love with April, and it’s wrong, and he shouldn’t and won’t do it. But he should be thinking at least as much about it as he does elsewhere about her see-through lace and chenille blah-blah.Plus, inquiring porn readers want to know: how are her breasts shaped? What do her nipples look like? Do they stiffen when she talks dirty? What are the characteristics of her of-course-it’s-shaved-or-lasered mound? Of her everyone-wants-it-but-you-can’t-have-it pussy?This is the kind of body that starts wars. It’s worth more than a sentence. Feed our lewd and prurient interest with details utterly without redeeming social importance.Thanks!
